Ella Fitzgerald – Dream a Little Dream of Me

Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong duet on the song ella fitzgerald dream a little dream of me in their 1956 album Cheek to Cheek. The music for the song was written by Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt.

The song is often used in film and television as a romantic scene or a lullaby. It was sung by the character of John Crichton (portrayed by Ben Browder) in the Farscape episode “Dream a Little Dream”. A version was also sung at fashion designer Erin Fetherston’s 2007 show by Zooey Deschanel. It is also featured at the end and credits of the 2010 Jude Law movie Repo Men.

In the Muppet*Vision 3D episode “Grumpier Old Men”, Miss Piggy sings a loosely parody version of Mama Cass’ rendition of the song to Burgess Meredith’s daughter. The song was also sung by opera singer and coloratura soprano Sumi Jo for her classical crossover album released in Korea.

Various artists have recorded the song, with many of them being traditional pop and jazz performers. The original recording by Cass Elliot and the Mamas and the Papas is a #1 hit in Europe, followed by a cover by Anita Harris. Harris’ version would stay in the charts but not climb as high as the Cass/Mamas and Papas record. It remained in the Top 40 for only one week.
