The Different Types of Men’s Socks
From no-show socks that hide just below the lip of your shoe to mid-calf dress socks that proudly straddle the largest part of your calf, socks are an important part of any outfit. But with so many types to choose from, it’s easy to get a little confused. Luckily, our guide breaks down the different types of men’s socks so you can decide which ones are right for you.
The most invisible of the bunch, no-show socks are perfect for casual wear and the office (if you’re willing to risk chafing). Sitting just below your ankle bone, these socks disappear under cuffed pants or sneakers. We tried a few pairs of these, and our favorites were the Arvin Goods socks, which have a built-in piece of rubber in the heel to keep them from sliding down. They also come in a variety of fun colors and look great with loafers.
If you want to make a statement, pick up a pair of socks with a vibrant color or a pattern. These are typically worn with jeans and t-shirts and can add some personality to your wardrobe. We’re fans of the classic stripes and dots, but you can also find socks with motifs like guitars or Christmas trees to liven up your outfits.
If you need a basic staple, go with crew or trouser socks. These are commonly found in black and navy, and can be plain or patterned to suit your style. If you’re looking for something more formal, try some of the dress socks we’ve tested, which are tightly woven, comfortable, and super saturated in color—and they’ll only cost a few bucks. men’s bamboo socks
